Seawolves set to travel to Columbia on Friday in search of third win

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook women's soccer looks to get back on track this week, traveling to Columbia on Friday, Sept. 8 for a 6 p.m. non-conference game. The Seawolves are 2-4-0 through three weeks of the 2017 season.

Latest in Stony Brook Women's Soccer
  • Stony Brook fell to Bryant, 1-0, its last time out on Sept. 3. The Seawolves outshot Bryant 15-3 in the loss, recording eight shots in the second half of the contest.
  • The Seawolves have attempted 77 shots and 24 corner kicks so far this year, which both rank No. 3 in the America East.
  • Freshman Rachel Florenz (Bay Shore, N.Y.) has been named America East women's soccer Rookie of the Week twice thus far in 2017. Florenz has recorded three goals in the Seawolves' first six games.
  • Head Coach Brendan Faherty guided the Seawolves to a 9-8-3 record during his first year with the program in 2016. The team earned its first America East playoff appearance since the 2013 season after notching a Division-I era record six straight conference wins in league play.
  • Faherty earned America East Coach of the Year honors, and saw six players earn all-conference accolades, including two on the first team. Stony Brook returns two conference award winners from the 2016 season. America East All-Second Team selection Kaitlin Loughren (Huntington, N.Y.) is back for her junior season, while America East All-Rookie award winner Lea Kalmbach (Tettnang, Germany) returns for her sophomore season with the Seawolves. 
Scouting Columbia
  • Columbia is 1-2-1 so far in the new season, with its lone win coming vs. Seton Hall at home.
  • Natalie Neshat leads the team with two goals, while Emily Koe has one goal and one assist in 2017.
