Vestal, N.Y. – Stony Brook women's basketball heads to conference foe Binghamton on Thursday, Jan. 18, squaring off with the Bearcats from Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center (7 p.m.)
Last Time Out
- Stony Brook women's basketball picked up its first conference win of the season this past Saturday afternoon at Island Federal Credit Union Arena, topping Vermont by the final score of 80-57. With the win, the Seawolves improve to 9-8 (1-3 AE) so far in 2017-18.
- Stony Brook made a season-high 31 shots from the floor, shooting 31-of-57 (54.4 percent) in total. The Seawolves also shot a season-best 12-of-19 from 3-point distance.
- Shania Johnson (Frederick, MD.) led the way once again, recording 24 points, a season-high nine assists and four rebounds. Johnson shot 9-of-13 from the field, knocking down 6-of-8 3-point attempts.
- Jerell Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) added 20 points and three rebounds on 8-of-12 shooting. The junior has tallied double-digit point totals in 12 games so far in 2017-18.
Scouting Binghamton
- Binghamton enters Thursday night's contest with an 11-6 record, going 2-2 so far in America East play. The Bearcats have defeated Maine and Hartford, losing to New Hampshire and Albany.
- Imani Watkins has paced Binghamton offensively, recording a conference-best 21.2 points per game over the first 17 games.
- The Seawolves are 17-18 all-time vs. Binghamton (Division I era), going 1-1 vs. the Bearcats in 2016-17.
Head Coach Caroline McCombs
- Caroline McCombs is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Stony Brook women's basketball team in 2017-18, as the Seawolves' head coach has risen among the winningest coaches in Stony Brook's Division I era.
- With nine victories to begin the 2017-18 season, McCombs has now won 55 games on Long Island – which ranks second among Stony Brook coaches in the Division I era. McCombs guided the Seawolves' program to 17 wins in 2014-15, 17 victories in 2015-16, and 12 wins in 2016-17.

Since the start of the new calendar year, three different Seawolves have recorded career-high numbers:
Johnson from Distance
- Shania Johnson (Frederick, MD.) has drained 55 3-point field goals so far in 17 games for the Seawolves, which ranks No. 1 in the America East and No. 20 nationally.
Clark on the Glass
- Junior transfer Cheyenne Clark (Deptford, N.J.) has grabbed 9.2 rebound per game so far this season, which ranks No. 1 in the America East and No. 56 nationally.
- Clark grabbed 23 rebounds on Dec. 6 vs. Yale, which ties the Seawolves' single-season program record. She then recorded 11 offensive rebounds on Dec. 17 vs. CCSU, and now ranks No. 20 in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (4.0).

Three Stony Brook players have earned America East weekly award honors so far this year:
Preseason Poll
The Seawolves were selected to finish No. 8 in the 2017-18 America East Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference on Oct. 19, 2017. Stony Brook received 16 total votes in the poll. New Hampshire was voted as the unanimous league favorite, garnering 64 total votes.
