STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook women's swimming and diving program and head coach
Kerry Smith have announced the addition of nine student-athletes heading into the 2018-19 season.
Barbara Delaney, Mikaylie DePalma, Haille Bogumil, Caroline Dunn, Michelle Wootton, Gabrielle Matiszik, Allegra Neglia, Jessica Salmon and Yurika Tomita will all join the Seawolves program heading into the new year.
"I am really excited about these nine young ladies coming into Stony Brook," Smith said. "They believe in the vision that I share for this program, and are eager to help lay the foundation for years of success to come – not just in the America East but on the national stage."
Haille Bogumil | Fr.
Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch High School
Bogumil attended Lakewood Ranch High School, competing on the swimming and diving program for four years under head coach Julie Santiago. She was selected as an All-American in 2015, and served as team captain as a senior in 2017.
Barbara Delaney | Fr.
Albany, N.Y./Albany High School
Delaney swam on the varsity swimming & diving program at Albany High School for six years. She competed in all four strokes, primarily in the 50/100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly under head coach Rossi Maldonado. She served as team captain during her junior and senior season, earning All-Sectional honors in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017. Her father, Michael, was a member of both the football and swimming & diving programs at SUNY Brockport. He also played professional football in the Arena Football League/Canadian Football League from 1987-97. Delaney plans to major in Marine Biology while at Stony Brook.
Mikaylie DePalma | Fr.
Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills High School East
DePalma has been a member of the Half Hollow Hills High School East swimming and diving program since 2014 under head coach Nina Cunningham. She has competed in backstroke and freestyle events, serving as the team's captain in both 2017 as a junior and 2018 as a senior. DePalma earned All-League honors for four-straight years from 2014-2017, helping Half Hollow Hills to an undefeated season and county championship during her junior season.
Caroline Dunn | Fr.
Brookeville, M.D./Sherwood High School
Dunn helped lead Sherwood High School to a 23-1 record over four years under head coach Brendan Lees, including a first place finish in the state championship as a sophomore (2016) and junior (2018). She plans to major in Psychology at Stony Brook.
Gabrielle Matiszik | Fr.
Milwaukee, W.I./Ronald Wilson Reagan College Prep
Matiszik attended Ronald Wilson Reagan College Prep from 2014-18. She plans to major in Chemical and Molecular Engineering at Stony Brook. Her father, Richard, played football at Wisconsin from 1983-87.
Allegra Neglia | Fr.
East Northport, N.Y./Northport High School
The Long-Island native competed in the 50-yard, 100-yard and 500-yard freestyle events during her five-year stint with the Northport High School program under Mark Kretzer and Drew Mondrov. She served as captain of the program in her final year, helping lead Northport to a 6-2 record. Neglia, who plans to major in Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook, earned All-League (2013) and All-County (2016, 2017) honors while in high school.
Jessica Salmon | Fr.
Rexford, N.Y./Shenendehowa High School
Salmon competed in the 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke for four years at Shenendehowa High School. She was named the program's Rookie of the Year in 2014, and plans to major in Marine Vertebrate Biology at Stony Brook.
Yurika Tomita | Fr.
Manhattan, N.Y./School of the Future
Tomita attended School of the Future in Manhattan, New York, competing under coach Brad S. Green for Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics. She was ranked No. 133 in CollegeSwimming.com's recruit rankings for the state of New York. She plans to major in Biology at Stony Brook.
Michelle Wootton | Fr.
Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot High School
Wootton was a member of the varsity swimming and diving program at Connetquot High School under head coach Alex Shichilone. She plans to major in Biology at Stony Brook.
