STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook men's soccer is set to begin the 2018 season, traveling to George Washington on Friday, Aug. 24 (4 p.m.) before returning to LaValle Stadium on Monday, Aug. 27 for its home opener vs. St. Francis Brooklyn.

Seawolves Notes
  • The Seawolves went 7-6-5 last season, winning five of the program's first seven contests to advance to America East postseason for the fourth-straight year.
  • Stony Brook tallied six total non-conference victories this year – its most since the 2012 season. 
  • With a win over Central Conn. State on Sept. 6, 2017, Seawolves head coach Ryan Anatol reached the 50-win mark for his career as a Division I head coach
  • Stony Brook has added 10 players to its roster heading into the 2018 campaign after graduating 11 student-athletes follow the 2017-18 year.
  • The Seawolves (16 points) were tabbed sixth in the America East preseason poll, just ahead of Hartford (12 points) and Binghamton (11 points). UMass Lowell (44 points), New Hampshire (42 points) and Albany (40 points) finished atop the poll heading into the new season.
  • Serge Gamwanya (Trondheim, Norway) and Jarred Dass (Marabella, Trinidad) are the top returning scorers for Stony Brook, as both recorded five points in 2017. Gamwanya scored one goal to go along with three helpers last year, while Dass tallied two goals and one assist.
  • Junior goalkeeper Jacob Braham (Cortlandt, N.Y.) also returns for the Seawolves after logging time in nine total contests last year, posting a 1.20 goals-against average to go along with one shutout.
Scouting George Washington
  • GW went 9-7-2 (6-2-0 A-10), finishing tied for second in the A-10 regular season standings and earning the right to host the conference championship quarterfinal.
  • Eight Colonials that started in eight-plus contests in 2017 will return for head coach Craig Jones – who enters his seventh season with the program.
  • Sophomore Oscar Haynes Brown returns for George Washington as a sophomore in 2018. In his first year with the program, he led the Colonials with six goals and two helpers for 14 total points.
  • Stony Brook is 0-0-1 all-time vs. George Washington, playing to a scoreless tie vs. the Colonials last season at LaValle Stadium.
Scouting St. Francis Brooklyn
  • St. Francis Brooklyn has been selected as the unanimous preseason NEC favorite for the second-straight season. The Terriers went 14-5-1 (6-0-1 NEC) last season, earning the program's fourth conference title in the last five seasons (2013, 2014, 2016, 2017).
  • The Terries ranked No. 1 in the NEC in assists (33), goals-against average (0.92) and shutouts (8) in 2017 under head coach Tom Giovatto.
  • Senior Ali Tounkara is St. Francis Brooklyn's highest returning scorer. He posted four goals and two assists for 10 total points in 2017.
  • The Seawolves are 4-1-0 all-time vs. St. Francis. The last time the two programs met was in 2004.
