Kennedy and Burns Compete for Team USA at Spring Premiere

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Current Stony Brook women's lacrosse players Ally Kennedy and Mackenzie Burns recently wrapped up a trip to California as members of the United States Women's National Team.

The duo competed in the Red, White and Blue at the Spring Premiere, which was held from Jan. 25-27 on campus at Stanford University. The event featured six teams, including both the U.S. senior and U19 squads, along with teams from England, Japan, Fresno State and Stanford.

"I was extremely proud of our women," said head coach Joe Spallina. "They competed against two international teams and did an outstanding job. I'm excited to see their progression within the U.S. Women's Lacrosse National Team pool as we gear up towards the 2021 World Cup. The future is extremely bright for these two and it should set the table for a great college season."

Kennedy and Burns both earned starting reps and were just two of eight current collegiate athletes to be named to the 26-player roster by head coach Jenny Levy. 2018 Stony Brook graduate Kylie Ohlmiller also joined the two out in the Golden State as a member of Team USA.

The Spring Premiere marked Kennedy's second time playing with the national team as she previously played with the squad at the U.S. President's Cup in Florida back in November.  The junior recorded one goal against England and two versus Japan.

"Again, it was an unbelievable experience," Kennedy said. "Going down there a second time, I definitely felt more comfortable. It was cool playing against different countries and seeing how the game is growing. It was also fun having one of my best friends along with me for the ride this time."

Burns notched one goal against Japan while playing on defense.

"It was obviously a great honor to represent our country and play with some of the best players in lacrosse," said Burns. "Overall, it was a great experience. I was very nervous at first but all the girls made me feel comfortable and the team vibe was awesome. I loved being there playing everybody and playing different countries and seeing how the game has spread around the world."

Kennedy and Burns will be back in action with Stony Brook on Feb. 22 as the team heads west to take on Colorado. The Seawolves host Stanford on Mar. 3 at LaValle Stadium for its home opener. Single-game tickets for all home contests are now on sale and can be purchased here.
