Pair of Local Rivals Highlight Home Weekend for Seawolves

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – It's a pair of Long Island rivalries this weekend as the Stony Brook women's soccer team welcomes St. John's and Hofstra to LaValle Stadium on Thursday and Sunday.
 
After starting 3-1 for the first time since the 2013 season, the Seawolves will play host to the Red Storm on Thursday night at 7 p.m., before welcoming Hofstra for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Sunday afternoon.

Seawolves Notes
  • Junior Chelsie DePonte (Honolulu, Hawaii) leads the team with five points on the season. She had a pair of goals in the season opener against Northeastern and added an assist on Friday against Delaware.
  • Five different players have found the net for the Seawolves this season, led by DePonte's two.
  • DePonte and classmate Fanny Götesson (Varnamo, Sweden) each have tallied an assist.
  • Stony Brook has won its last eight home regular season contests and 11 of the previous 12 at LaValle.
  • Junior Sofia Manner (Helsinki, Finland) is inside the top 50 nationally in total saves, accumulating 20 in the first four games of the season.
The Series with St. John's
  • The Red Storm have won 13 of the 22 meetings in a series that dates back to 1987. Stony Brook has six wins while three matches have ended even.
  • The last time the teams met at LaValle was in 2015 when the Red Storm took home a 1-0 victory.
Scouting St. John's
  • The Red Storm enter Thursday night's contest losers of three of the first four matches of 2019. St. John's defeated Yale 2-1 in double overtime on August 30 for its lone win of the season.
  • They are 0-2 in road contests this season, falling at James Madison and Notre Dame.
  • Zsani Kajan has a pair of goals on the year, including the golden goal winner against Yale, to lead the team. Isabelle Aviza has the other tally for the Red Storm.
  • Between the posts, Naya Lipkens has started all four games, compiling a 1.76 goals-against average and .759 save percentage.
  • The Red Storm went 9-9-1 a season ago, falling to Providence in the Big East Tournament.
The Series with Hofstra
  • The Pride have won 11 of the 14 contests against the Seawolves in a series that dates back to 1993.
  • Hofstra's only trip to LaValle Stadium in the last 17 years was in 2017, when they took home a 1-0 victory.
Scouting Hofstra
  • Hofstra enters the weekend with an even 2-2-0 resume with a 1-0 win over Hofstra and a 6-1 defeat of Fordham on their hands.
  • The Pride will take on a pair of local foes this weekend, playing at No. 21 Rutgers on Thursday night before traveling back to Long Island for a Sunday matinee affair with the Seawolves.
  • Lucy Porter has five goals on the campaign for the Pride, with four of them coming in the win over the Rams.
  • Sabrina Bryan has a pair of goals and an assist for five points, good for second on the team.
  • Skylar Kuzmich has allowed nine goals this season for a 2.38 GAA. Her save percentage currently sits at .571.
