Jaron Cornish Signs Professional Contract with Zornotza in Spanish LEB-Silver League

STONY BROOK, N.Y. Jaron Cornish has found his way into professional basketball.

The former Stony Brook point guard signed a contract with Zornotza Saskibaloi Taleda in the Spanish LEB-Silver league and made his debut Saturday for the team in a 75-72 loss to Marabella.

Cornish played 18 minutes in his inaugural professional contest, draining a three and grabbing a rebound to get his feet wet in the pros. His squad next will play West Division foe Juaristi ISB on Friday.

The Abaco, Bahamas, native started all 33 games in his final season with the Seawolves in 2018-19, averaging 3.6 assists per contest, good for seventh in the Division I era. He finished with 195 career assists in two seasons, chipping in nine points and four rebounds per contest during his career.

The signing proved a welcome positive. Cornish and his family were affected by Hurricane Dorian, which ravaged the Bahamas, particularly Cornish's hometown in Abaco.

A Stony Brook Athletics-led fundraiser for Cornish and his family led to nearly $2,500 in donations.
