Siobhan Rafferty and Rayna Sabella of Women’s Lacrosse Named to America East All-Academic Team

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Getting work done both on the field and in the classroom.

That mantra rings true for both Siobhan Rafferty and Rayna Sabella of the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team.

The junior duo was named to the America East All-Academic team on Tuesday morning.

Rafferty, now a two-time All-Academic honoree, holds a 3.82 GPA as a Psychology major and has recorded 60 goals, 10 assists, 35 ground balls, 18 caused turnovers and two draw controls in her career as a Seawolf.

"I'm extremely excited to be a member of this year's all-academic team," Rafferty said. "I take great pride in my work in the classroom just as much as my work on the field, so it is an honor to be recognized for this."

The Long Beach native was the team's second-highest goal scorer in 2019 with 50 goals and was named First Team All-Conference. As a freshman in 2018, Rafferty was selected to the All-Rookie squad.

Off of the lacrosse field, Rafferty has earned a spot on the Dean's List every semester and has been placed on the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll. The midfielder is also a member of Stony Brook's chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success.

Sabella, a Business Management major with a 3.57 GPA, started all five games this season and tallied six goals, 11 ground balls, seven draw controls and one caused turnover.

"I am very excited and honored to be named to the 2020 All-Academic team," Sabella said. "I am pleased to know that our dedication off the field and in the classroom is being recognized and rewarded as well."

In her Stony Brook career, the Mount Sinai native has recorded 29 goals, eight assists, 34 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers and 11 draw controls.

The team captain was named to the All-Championship team last season and was an All-Rookie team selection in 2018.

Like Rafferty, Sabella has also been included on the Dean's List every semester and is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success.
