SALT LAKE CITY — Stony Brook men's lacrosse assistant coach
Mike Chanenchuk is bringing a Premier Lacrosse League title back to Long Island.
Chanenchuk and the Whipsnakes repeated as league champions by going unbeaten in the PLL Championship Series.
The Whipsnakes rallied to defeat the Chaos, 12-6, on Sunday afternoon in the NBC-televised final.
Chanenchuk scored the game's opening goal. The Whipsnakes overcame a four-point third-quarter deficit by scoring the game's final 10 goals.
Chanenchuk, a midfielder and East Setauket native who completed his first season on the Stony Brook staff this past spring, produced 14 points in seven games — six one-point goals, two two-point goals and four assists.
During the 20-game event, the PLL's seven teams competed in a group play format to determine seeding for an ensuing single-elimination tournament.
Strict safety protocols were followed and fans were not be admitted to Zions Bank Stadium, which hosted the 16-day event.

Ryland Rees also competed in the PLL Championship Series, with the Waterdogs. A long stick midfielder, Rees tallied six caused turnovers, 16 ground balls and four points in five games.
Chanenchuk's repeat title comes on the heels of Stony Brook alums
Justin Pugal and Challen Rogers winning the Major League Lacrosse championship with the Boston Cannons on July 26 in Annapolis, Md.
