NEWARK, N.J. — Each Stony Brook relay team took home a medal on Saturday.
The 200 free and 400 medley combinations secured bronze for the Stony Brook swim team, highlighting Day 2 at the America East Championships. Stony Brook currently sits 12 points out of the top five with one day to go at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Saturday started with a strong 200 free relay squad of freshmen
Briana Liew,
Lara Youssef and
Mary Kate Conway, as well as sophomore
Emma Waechter, as the squad knocked 3.4 seconds off its seed time to clock in at 1:36.98. The time was a quarter of a second ahead of Maine for fourth.
It ended with Youssef and Conway anchoring the last two legs of the 400 medley relay, being joined by classmate
Reagan MacDonald at the start and sophomore
Amanda Heinz swimming the second leg of the race the Seawolves finished in 3:51.95. The combination knocked off 6.02 seconds from its entry time.
Youssef finished just under a second from her second podium in three races, securing fourth in the 100 fly in 57.15 seconds. Madison Enda finished right behind her at 57.29 to place two Seawolves in the top five.
It was the freshman Conway again finding her way into the top five, this time in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.67, just 0.29 seconds from the podium in the final top five performance for an individual swimmer.
Day Three is slated again for an 11 a.m. start at NJIT.
