PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Stony Brook men's soccer team fell tonight in a non-conference battle in New Jersey at Rutgers University, 2-0.
The Scarlet Knights got the first goal of the night in the ninth minute when Pablo Avila found the back of the net off a feed from Colin Beasley inside of the box.
The Seawolves had their best opportunities over the next 20 minutes, as the squad created four corner kicks and a penalty kick by sophomore
Jonas Bickus. Bickus was turned away from tying the game up at 1-1 on his penalty kick attempt in the 24th minute by Rutgers' goalkeeper Ciaran Dalton.
Stony Brook outshot the Scarlet Knights, 6-4, with three shots on goal compared to one, and did not allow a corner kick.
The Seawolves' defense led by reigning CAA Defensive Player of the Week
Edmond Kaiser held up in the second half, making two key saves in the 61st minute and 75th minute to keep the deficit, 1-0. A goal by MD Myers in the 88th minute gave the Scarlet Knights a 2-0 lead and ultimately the victory.

The Seawolves return to CAA play on Saturday, October 15, as the squad takes on the Fightin' Blue Hens of Delaware under the lights at 7 p.m. On October 14, 2001, the teams met for the first and only time, with the the teams playing to a scoreless draw.
