Pasquarella Keeps a Clean Sheet as Seawolves Draw with Charleston

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook women's soccer picked up a critical point in the CAA standings on Thursday night after its shutout and 0-0 draw with the Charleston Cougars.

On the back of sophomore goalkeeper Nicolette Pasquarella's eight saves, the Seawolves recorded their third shutout of the season and second in as many games. It was Pasquarella's second shutout of the season.

The Cougars outshot Stony Brook, 19-13, in the match and put eight shots on goal to Stony Brook's four. Despite a couple of goalkeeper changes, Charleston was still able to put forth a combined clean sheet.

Sophomore Katie Carrino started in net for the Cougars, but was replaced by sophomore Savannah Barron to start the second half. Barron was injured in the 61st minute and replaced by Carrino, who finished out the game in goal for Charleston, completing the Cougars' seventh shutout of the season. Carrino and Barron each recorded two saves.

Stony Brook had its biggest chance of the night in the 88th minute when Charleston freshman defender Lilly Smiley was given a red card. The Seawolves had senior defender Catharina von Drigalski take the free kick from just outside of the 18-yard box, but she sent the shot just high.

  • Stony Brook took a total of 13 shots and had four players account for all of them. Luciana Setteducate paced the Seawolves with six shots, Reilly Rich had five, and Linn Beck and von Drigalski each added one.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"I was hoping for a little bit more today," head coach Tobias Bischof said. "You have to give credit to Charleston. They did a good job defending us and we just didn't create as many scoring opportunities as we would like to."

NEXT UP
Stony Brook will play its final home game of the season on Sunday, October 16, when it goes head-to-head with UNCW at 12 p.m. from LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves will honor their seniors with a pregame ceremony.
