VAN CORTLANDT PARK, N.Y. – The Seawolves' women's cross country team avenged their third-place finish from last year's ECAC Cross Country Championship, as the squad took home a thrilling first-place overall finish today, tallying 105 points, en route to victory.

Stony Brook was the only team with three top-10 finishers, and was paced by junior Fiona McLoughlin finishing in fourth-place. Completing the championship race shortly after McLoughlin was sophomore Grace Weigele and junior Nicole Garcia placing eighth and 10th, respectively. This was the third race this season that the trio tallied top 10 finishes.

Freshman Jade Pazmino, sophomore Grace Sisson, and junior Samantha Rutt all had solid performances at the ECAC Championship. Pazmino and Sisson finished at 41st and 42nd place, while Rutt came in right behind at 51st-place. Sophomore Niamh Durcan rounded out the top-100 for the squad, finishing in 88th-place.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • McLoughlin crossed the finish line in fourth-place as she posted a final time of 21:15.0. The junior had an average split time of 7:34.3. This was the second year in a row that McLoughlin finished top-five at the ECAC race, as she finished in second-place at last year's championship.
  • Weigele was the next Seawolf to complete the race as she came in eighth-place. She did so in 21:32.3 and beat her top-25 finish from last season.
  • Right behind Weigele came Garcia, who earned a 10th-place finish with a final time of 21:38.0.
  • Pazmino and Sission paced each other, finishing at 22:22.1 and 22:23.5 for the top-50 finish.
QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"Excited for the ladies, they have been working hard and for them to get the win today is a big boost for the group. Wins are hard to come by and they take a full team effort and that's what we got today. Our front three of Fiona, Grace, and Nicole were fantastic and really set the tone for everyone else," said head coach Andy Ronan.
