Volleyball Drops Road Tilt at Delaware, Henry Records 2,000th Career Assist

NEWARK, Del. - The Stony Brook volleyball team had its three-match winning streak snapped today, after falling 17-25, 13-25, and 22-25 to the Delaware University Fightin' Blue Hens.

Junior setter Torri Henry engraved her name into the Seawolf record book today, as the Missouri native became just the eighth player in Stony Brook history to reach 2,000 career assists after a dish to fellow junior, Lauren Schmitz. Henry sits at second-place in the CAA with 646 assists this season.

The Fightin' Blue Hens came out firing in the first set, going on a 11-1 run at 8-5 to separate themselves from the Seawolves to take the set. The squad held their own in the second set, tying the match up at, 7-7, but the team from Newark went on a 12-3 run to ultimately defeat Stony Brook in the second set.

It was Stony Brook who started the third set scorching, as the squad jumped out to an early 9-4 lead. Many Seawolves contributed to the early success, with junior Abby Campbell capturing two blocks and a kill, junior Leoni Kunz, freshman Kali Moore, and sophomore Erin Garr each tallied kills.

Following two service aces from Henry, the Blue Hens would recuperate after a timeout and start an 8-2 run that would push Delaware's lead to 20-17. The squad battled to the final point, pushing the Blue Hen lead to one point, but Stony Brook ultimately fell in the final set, 25-22.

STATS AND NOTES
  • Henry dished out 23 assists today and now has at least 20 assists in every match since September of 2021. The junior is also 54 assists away from 700 for the season.  Henry collected seven digs and two service aces this afternoon as well.
  • Kunz led the team with nine kills. The junior now has 47 kills in her last four matches.
  • Campbell led the team with two blocks and mashed seven kills.
  • Freshman Kali Moore celebrated her birthday today with seven kills and two service aces. Moore hit the 200th mark for the season, as the Brooklyn native leads all freshman in the CAA and is sixth overall with 203 kills.
  • Junior libero Julia Patsos also celebrated her birthday with 13 digs this afternoon.
QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"Congratulations to Torri for earning her 2,000th assist. Many more to come for her. This is a great nod to her as well as her teammates these past few years for their passes and kills.

I think everybody on our team would tell you they're disappointed with today and we need to be better tomorrow. We just never got in an offensive rhythm and were high-error, which is a bad combination. I thought our attackers didn't put themselves in position to have multiple options and Delaware is too good defensively for that to work. We will watch the film and make adjustments for tomorrow," said head coach Kristin Belzung
