RICHMOND, Va. – Stony Brook freshman
Kali Moore and junior
Julia Patsos celebrated their birthdays this past weekend by being collecting the CAA Volleyball Rookie of the Week and CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors, as announced by the league office today.
Moore continued her standout rookie campaign by posting the first 20-20 match of her career on Sunday, leading Stony Brook to a five-set win over Delaware. The Brooklyn native mashed a career-high 23 kills, tallied a career-high 22 digs, and a service ace in the victory. Also, Moore has reached double-digit kills in 11 matches this fall and leads all CAA first-year student-athletes in kills per set (3.14).
On Saturday, the rookie contributed seven kills, nine digs, and two service aces in the series opener at Delaware. Earlier in the year, Moore was the first member of the Seawolves volleyball program to ever claim a CAA weekly honor and has captured the conference's rookie award on three occasions this year as she previously won it on August 29 and October 2.
As for Patsos, this was the first CAA weekly honor for the junior libero. Patsos paced the Stony Brook defense with 43 digs, 6.14 per set, while having a .989 reception percentage and only made one error in 91 attempts over two matches this weekend. In the victory on Sunday, Patsos had a career-high 30 digs, along with three assists, and a service-ace to lead the defensive effort for the squad.
The Long Island native now has reached double-digit digs in her last four matches and 14 overall this season. The junior also leads the team with 245 digs this season and ranked ninth in the conference. On Saturday, she recorded a team-high 13 digs despite the defeat to the Blue Hens.
The Seawolves are back in action this weekend as they will travel to Boston, Mass., to take on the Northeastern Huskies on October 22 and 23. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. on both days and can be watched on FloVolleyball. This will be the first matchup for the CAA rivals since 2004, with the Huskies owning the overall head-to-head record, 7-4.
