SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Sophomore forward
Sherese Pittman had a career day in paradise as she tallied a career-high 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds en route to the Seawolves' 86-72 win over High Point to tip-off the Puerto Rico Clasico.
The Seawolves used a strong fourth quarter performance to close out the victory as they outscored High Point, 25-12, in the stanza. Stony Brook took a 61-60 lead into the final frame and locked in defensively to secure its third win of the season.
Pittman led the Seawolves in scoring and was one of four Stony Brook student-athletes to finish the game scoring in double figures. Graduate guard

Gigi Gonzalez joined Pittman in double figures. Warren totaled 19 points, while Almond and Gonzalez each tallied 11 points apiece.
Stony Brook set the tone in the fourth quarter by beginning the frame on an 8-0 run over the first 4:47. The Seawolves' lead grew to as large as 16 points in the fourth when Pittman knocked down a shot in the paint to put Stony Brook up 83-67.
The Seawolves forced 13 turnovers in the game and five of which came in the fourth quarter. The Stony Brook defense limited the High Point offense to just 35.7 percent shooting from the field in the fourth after it shot over 50.0 percent from the field over the first three quarters of play.
STATS AND NOTES
- Pittman poured in a career-high 26 points on 12-of-22 shooting from the field. Her 12 field goals and 22 shot attempts were both career-highs. The forward pulled down eight rebounds, six of which were of the offensive variety. Pittman added three steals and shot 2-of-3 from the free-throw line in the win. She also swiped a career-high three steals.
- Warren registered 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, pulled down seven rebounds, and dished out four assists. Her seven rebounds and four assists were both season-highs. She has scored in double figures in three out of the Seawolves' first five games of the season.
- Almond added 11 points, a season-high six assists, and five rebounds in her return to the court. She set season-highs in both assists and rebounds.
- Gonzalez finished the game with 11 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
- Graduate forward Nairimar Vargas-Reyes returned to her native Puerto Rico and tallied eight points and 11 rebounds. She has pulled down 11 rebounds in three-straight games.
- Junior guard Shamarla King totaled eight points and eight rebounds in 26 minutes of play off the bench.
- As a team, Stony Brook dished out 18 assists. The 18 helpers were the Seawolves most in a game this season and most since January 2, when they totaled 21 assists against Hartford.
- The Seawolves poured in a season-high 86 points, their most points scored in a game since they put up 95 points in a win over Hartford on February 19.
- Stony Brook outrebounded High Point, 46-21. The Seawolves grabbed 20 offensive boards, while High Point was able to only muster one.
