Volleyball’s Kim, Patsos, Henry, and Kunz Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Stony Brook volleyball team was recognized for its success in the classroom on Monday, as four student-athletes were selected to the 2022-23 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.

Senior Julia Kim, and juniors Julia Patsos, Torri Henry, and Leoni Kunz received the honors for the first time in their careers.

The Academic All-District Women's Volleyball Team awards the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.50 GPA, have a minimum of one year completed at their current institution and had to have played in 50 percent of Stony Brook's games.

Kim appeared in 14 matches and 47 sets this season. She totaled 172 assists and averaged 3.66 assists per set. The senior finished the season with a career-high 15 service aces, which was the sixth most on the team. Kim also recorded a career-high 44 digs. Kim was tabbed to the America East Honor Roll as a junior last year. She will graduate with a degree in health science. 

Patsos was the only player on the team to suit up at libero this season. She played in all 26 matches and 99 sets. The junior led the team and totaled a career-high 347 digs and 3.51 digs per set. She recorded a career-high 85 assists and 21 service aces, which ranked fifth on the team. Patsos was tabbed to the America East Honor Roll as a sophomore last year. 

Henry also made the America East Honor Roll last season. As a junior this year, she played in all 26 matches, making 25 starts. Henry totaled 860 assists and averaged 8.6 assists per set. She had 26 service aces, which was tied for second on the team. Henry had a career-high 255 digs and added 25 blocks as a junior. 

Kunz earned a spot on the America East Honor Roll last year. Kunz was second on the team in kills this season with 276 and 2.76 kills per set. She added 72 digs and 49 blocks. 

CSC Academic All-District recipients advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, Second, and Third Team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.

About the CSC Academic All-District Team: 
The nation's top student-athletes are honored for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Nominees needed a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.5-or-better and had to have played in 50 percent of the team's games. CSC Academic All-District® recipients advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
