EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The Stony Brook swimming and diving team took part in the second day of action in the 2022 Eastern College Athletic Championship (ECAC) on Saturday at the Nassau County Aquatic Center.
The 800 yard freestyle relay squad comprised of freshman
Alanna DePinto, seniors
Maddy Enda and
Bridget Montgomery, and junior
Mary Kate Conway highlighted the day for the Seawolves with a second-place overall finish in the last event of the day.
Freshman
Michelle Vu earned the highest individual result for Stony Brook with a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly. Vu touched the wall in 55.43, setting a new personal best. Enda rounded out the top 10 for the Seawolves clocking in at 56.34 which was good for a ninth-place finish.
Conway kept the momentum rolling for Stony Brook with a fourth-place overall finish in the 200 freestyle with a final time of 1:51.86. Graduate Jess Salmon followed suit with a seventh-place overall finish in the 100 backstroke with a final time of 1:06.30
The 200 yard medley relay team secured an eighth-place overall finish with a final time of 1:46.83. The team was made up of freshman
Makenna Lindeman, Salmon, Vu and Conway.
Junior
Sara DiStefano and MacDonald completed the top 10 finishes of the day for the Seawolves with a fourth-place overall finish in the 3-meter diving and a 10
th place overall finish in the 400 IM, respectively.
The Seawolves remain in sixth place overall with 577.5 points. Columbia University is on top with 1,384 points.
DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- The finish for Conway's preliminary 500 yard freestyle was 5:05.88, with Montgomery coming in right after at 5:08.70 and Hawkins rounding out the top 15 at 5:10.93.
- The 200 freestyle relay team composed of Conway, Enda, Youseff, and DePinto secured an 11th place finish in the 200 yard freestyle at 1:37.47.
- Conway had a team-best finish in the 500 yard freestyle with a final time of 5:02.25 which earned her a ninth-place overall finish.
- Vu finished the 200 IM in a 2:08.32 and the 50 yard freestyle in 24.10, respectively, during the finals. Vu secured new personal bests in both events.
- Lavery was the leader on the diving board today with 214.95 points, and DiStefano finished shortly behind with 202.10 points.
- The 400 yard medley relay squad comprised of MacDonald, Salmon, Enda and DePinto had a final time of 3:53.82 to end the night.
DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- The 800 freestyle relay squad comprised of DePinto, Enda, Montgomery and Conway highlighted the day for the Seawolves with a second-place overall finish with a combined final time of 7:41.75.
- Lindeman, Salmon, Vu and Conway combined to finish in eighth place in the 200 medley relay finals with a final time of 1:46.83.
- Vu finished in third place overall in the 100 butterfly finals with a time of 55.43. Enda and junior Lara Youssef earned a ninth-place and 17th-place finish, respectively.
- MacDonald touched the wall in a personal best 4:33.72 to earn a fourth-place overall finish in the 400 IM. Sophomore Brenna McLaughlin followed behind also securing a new personal best and a 12th place overall finish with a final time of 4:34.77.
- Sophomore Emma Hawkins and Freshman Aili Talcott rounded out the top 16 in the 400 IM earning 15th and 16th place finishes, respectively. Talcott also secured a new personal best with a final time of 4:41.64.
- Conway kept the momentum rolling for Stony Brook with a fourth-place overall finish in the 200 freestyle with a final time of 1:51.86. Senior Bridget Montgomery completed the top 15 with a 14th place finish and a final time of 1:56.15.
- In the 100 yard breaststroke finals, Salmon and Talcott both placed in the top 12. Salmon placed in seventh and Talcott in 12th.
- DiStefano finished in fourth in the 3-meter diving finals. She had a final score of 220.65 and earned 26 points.
- Five student-athletes finished in the top half of the 100 yard butterfly in the preliminaries. Vu continued to make an impact in her first ECAC, as she finished in 10th place. Enda was directly behind her in 11th and Youssef, freshman Hazel Alejos and Hawkins finished in 20th, 26th and 36th, respectively.
- Salmon led the Seawolves in the 100 yard breaststroke in the preliminaries, finishing in sixth place with a time of 1:06.24. Talcott, DePinto and graduate Yurika Tomita followed in 13th, 22nd and 25th, respectively.
NEXT UP
The Stony Brook women's swimming and diving team is back in action on Sunday, December 4, for the final day of the ECAC Winter Championships. Preliminaries begin at 9 a.m. and finals will take place at 4:30 p.m.
