STONY BROOK, N.Y. – It was a beautiful day for football on Long Island as Stony Brook held its annual Spring game on Saturday. The Seawolves played an offense-defense based intrasquad scrimmage that featured the offense picking up a 38-9 victory.
The offense earned points in the traditional fashion, while a scoring system was in place that allowed the defense to earn points outside of scoring a touchdown or a safety. The defense also received points for the following: a stop prior to the offense crossing the 50-yard line was worth two points, a stop after the offense crossed the 50-yard line was worth one point, three and outs were two points, and turnovers were four points.
Wide receivers
Shawn Harris Jr. and
Tedy Afful both had big days for the Seawolves. Harris Jr. finished the game with three catches for 126 yards and a touchdown, while Afful made four catches for 84 yards and two touchdowns.
Joshua Zamot found Harris Jr. for a 73-yard touchdown in the closing minutes of the ball game.
Daron Bryden tossed a 34-yard touchdown pass to Afful on the drive prior to Harris Jr.'s touchdown.
Wide receivers
Khalil Newton and
RJ Lamarre each put together strong games. Newton caught four passes for 60 yards, while Lamarre hauled in three passes for 51 yards.
Stony Brook's ground attack combined for 178 yards.
Roland Dempster totaled 83 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown, while
Jayden Cook had 10 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown.
The Seawolves played all three quarterbacks in the game and the trio impressed. Bryden went 9-for-11 with 131 yards and two touchdowns, Zamot was 5-for-8 with 124 yards and a touchdown, while
Drew Guttieri was 7-for-8 with 93 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, Stony Brook recorded two sacks, an interception, a three and out, one stop prior to the offense crossing the 50-yard line, and one stop after the offense crossed the 50-yard line.
Quenton Porter led the team with seven tackles (three solo, four assists).

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"It was pretty cool seeing a bunch of alumni in the stands and obviously the kids that played this past season who had the chance to lead this team. It's always a great connection, really feels good to see them smile. You want them to smile when they leave and be successful – I think Stony Brook in general provides them with that experience," said head coach
Chuck Priore.
