STONY BROOK, N.Y. – After standout performances in the Seawolves' NCAA Tournament wins over Drexel and Rutgers, Stony Brook graduate goalie
Charlie Campbell has been named the USA Lacrosse Magazine Division I Women's Player of the Week as announced by the publication on Tuesday.
Campbell first made nine saves and surrendered just four goals in the 16-4 first round win over Drexel on Friday. The graduate then helped lead the Seawolves to an 11-7 win over Rutgers on Sunday at LaValle Stadium. She registered a season-high tying 12 saves and finished with a 63.2 save percentage as she improved to 8-1 in the cage this season.
Her 12 saves were tied for the second-most by a Stony Brook goalie in an NCAA Tournament game. Campbell tied Anna Tesoriero's mark as she also recorded 12 saves in a game against James Madison on May 10, 2019. Campbell was one save shy of tying the program single-game NCAA Tournament record for saves, which is held by Tesoriero (made 13 saves at Maryland on May 20, 2017).
Campbell and the Stony Brook defense stymied the Scarlet Knights in the second half of Sunday's second round victory. The Seawolves pitched a shutout over the final 27 minutes of the game as they closed the game on a 4-0 scoring run.
Stony Brook is back in action on Thursday, May 19, when it travels to Chapel Hill for its second-straight NCAA quarterfinal appearance against No. 1 North Carolina. Opening draw is set for 7:30 p.m., on Thursday and will air on ESPNU.
