Men’s Track & Field Secures Three First-Place Finishes at Penn 10-Team Select Invite

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Stony Brook men's track and field team made its mark at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Saturday evening for the Penn 10-Team Select Invitational. The Seawolves are bringing home a win in the 200m, 3000m, and the 4x400m relay.
 
 After tying the program record in the 60m dash and earning a second-place finish in the 200m last weekend, senior Patrick Abel kept his hot streak rolling with a first-place finish and a new personal best in the 200m. Abel crossed the line in 22.06.
 
Graduate Robert Becker kept the momentum going for the Seawolves securing a first-place finish and a new personal best in the 3000m. Senior Shane Henderson crossed the line directly behind Becker in second.
 
Stony Brook ended the meet with a bang, earning a first-place finish in the 4x400m relay. The squad comprised of senior Richmond Boateng, junior Aleks Zdravkovic, sophomore Nicolas Lavazoli and Abel combined for a final time of 3:17.17.
 
 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Abel kept his hot streak rolling with a first-place finish and a new personal best in the 200m crossing the line in 22.06.
  • Becker secured a first-place finish and a new personal best in the 3000m with a final time of 8:07.31. Henderson crossed the line directly behind Becker in second with a final time of 8:10.61.
  • Graduates Carlos Santos Jr. and Colin Ross finalized the top 10 in the 3000m for the Seawolves earning sixth and ninth place finishes, respectively. Santos Jr. set a new personal best with a final time of 8:13.64.
  • Graduate Aiden Smyth clocked in at 8:18.01 which was good for an 11th place finish and a new personal best in the 3000m. Senior Evan Brennan finished behind Smyth in 14th place with a time of 8:20.37.
  • Freshman Aleksander Micich earned a podium finish in the long jump with a final mark of 6.59m for a third-place finish. Juniors Alex Kanes and Gavin Da Vanzo finished back-to-back behind Micich in fourth and fifth, respectively.
  • Graduate Joshua Titus led the way in the 60m hurdles with a fourth-place finish and a new personal best with a final time of 8.54. Sophomore and graduate Miles Ryan followed right behind Titus with fifth and sixth place finishes. Hilario also secured a new personal best with a time of 8.58.
  • Boateng clocked in at 49.61 for a fifth-place finish in the 4000m. Lavazoli and Zdravkovic crossed the line behind Boateng in sixth and 11th place, respectively. Lavazoli set a new personal best with a final time of 49.82.
  • Lavazoli added a third top 10 finish to his day with a fifth-place finish in the 200m (22.65). Sophmore Justin Vazques clocked in behind Lavazoli with a final time of 22.80 which was good for a seventh-place finish.
  • Sophomore Darnell Paul threw for 13.60m in the shot put to earn a 10th place finish.
  • Graduate transfer Mahmoud Abdalla added an 11th place finish in the 800m with a time of 1:55.69.

"The guys had a good night; you could see the improvement from last week.
Patrick Abel built on his performances from last week to win the 200 and contribute to the 4x400m relay win. Rob and Shane opened their seasons with a strong one, two finish in the 3000m," said head coach Andy Ronan.

The Seawolves return to Staten Island for the third weekend in a row when they compete in the Villanova Invite on Saturday, January 21 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
