STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The number one scoring defense in the nation just added a key piece to the 2023 season.
Hailey Duchnowski, a graduate of LIU, will join the No. 4 ranked Stony Brook women's lacrosse program for the upcoming 2023 season.
"Hailey is a proven goalie that was a 2022 Defensive Player of the Year at her previous stop, and we are all excited that she is here and ready to compete," said head coach
Joe Spallina.
The goalie started all 38 games and compiled a lengthy résumé throughout her three-year career for the Sharks. Duchnowski was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Year, All-NEC First Team, and NEC All-Tournament Team after her 2022 standout season.
The Miller Place, N.Y., native set the program record for career saves following LIU's contest against Howard on April 20, 2022, and finished the regular season sitting fifth in the NCAA ranks in save percentage (.505), sixth in saves (196), and seventh in saves per game (10.89).
"I am beyond thrilled to join the squad here at Stony Brook this season. Being coached by the best and having this opportunity to play for what I believe is the best team in the country is unreal," Duchnowski said. "The competition at practice every day is always on level 100. We're all in it for the long run and want the same results at the end of the day which makes it that much easier to show up, get it done and push each other. We're all just counting down the days until February 17th."
Prior to the LIU Post and LIU Brooklyn merger in 2019, Duchnowski started all 21 contests and was named ECC Goalkeeper of the Year and ECC All-Conference First Team for her outstanding performance for LIU Post. She led the conference in saves (186), was second in save percentage (.501), second in wins (14), and third in goals-against-average (9.57).
In addition to her tremendous success in the cage, Duchnowski is stellar in the classroom, as the graduate earned IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll and NEC Spring Academic Honor Roll honors in 2022.
