EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Marking its best finish in the competition since 2010, Stony Brook swimming & diving wrapped up day three of the ECAC Winter Championships with a second place overall finish, closing the weekend with a total of 1,207.5 points after events wrapped up at the Nassau County Aquatic Center on Sunday.
The Seawolves added 414 points on Sunday, staying in second place, a standing which they had held since Friday. Columbia finished first in the overall competition with 1,876 points.
Stony Brook's finals session was highlighted by nine top-10 finishes across five different events, which included a pair of top-three marks. Those top-three marks were courtesy of freshman
Sylvia Walker, who garnered a second place finish in the 100 yard freestyle with a program record time of 51.03, and senior
Mary Kate Conway who completed the 200-yard butterfly in 2:05.01 to finish third.
In the prelims, SBU finished top 10 on seven occasions. Walker grabbed top five in the 100-yard freestyle with a third place, 51.36 finish. Conway grabbed fifth in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:05.72 result.
Walker was named the Women's Swimmer of the Meet after an impressive showing across the weekend, which included breaking a pair of program records on Friday and finishing first, within a second of the program record in the 200-yard freestyle on Saturday, and breaking the 100-yard freestyle record on Sunday.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Sara Baxter took 10th in the 200-yard backstroke finals, touching the wall in 2:05.49.
- Stony Brook finished in three of the top 10 spots in the 100-yard freestyle finals. In addition to Walker's second place finish, Ashley Chui finished in sixth at 52.17 while Michelle Vu wrapped up a 10th place mark with a 52.28 time.
- The Seawolves also took three top-10 places in the 200-yard butterfly. Conway touched the wall to finish third, Olivia Polucha took eighth with a 2:07.69 mark and Chui grabbed 10th with a 2:08.15 time.
- The team of Conway, Vu, Jaelynn Taylor and Walker, three of whom were part of the program's record-setting 200-yard freestyle relay team on Friday, finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay finals, coming in at 3:27.64.
- The 3:27.64 mark took 6.25 seconds off the team's prelims time.
- Conway took top-three finishes in both of her finals events on Sunday
