RICHMOND, Va. – Stony Brook freshman
Sylvia Walker earned the Coastal Athletic Association's Swimmer of the Week honor after breaking three program records at the ECAC Championships over the weekend, the league announced on Tuesday.
Walker picks up Stony Brook's first league honor this season, helping the Seawolves to a second-place finish at the ECAC Championships, the program's best since 2010.
Individually, the Greenville, S.C. native broke the 50-yard freestyle record with a time of 23.58 in Friday's finals and the 100-yard freestyle record with a time of 51.03. She also teamed up with
Jaelynn Taylor,
Alanna DePinto and
Michelle Vu to break the program's 200-yard freestyle relay record with a time of 1:34.72.
Walker competed in eight events in total across three days, finishing seventh or better in every event in which she competed. She won Saturday's 200-yard freestyle, finishing just 0.43 seconds behind the program record at 1:50.27, and grabbed runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle relay, 800-yard freestyle relay (7:36.00), 400-yard freestyle relay (3:27.64) and 100-yard freestyle.
She was named Swimmer of the Meet by the ECAC following the weekend's events. Fellow Seawolf
Sara DiStefano was also honored for her contributions, being named the Diver of the Meet.
Stony Brook returns to dual-meet action following the holidays, traveling to New Jersey to take on Monmouth. The Seawolves are 2-1 in dual meets this season, and Walker has finished first in all 11 of her dual-meet competitions thus far.
