Swimming and Diving Wraps Up Day Two At CAA Championships

HAMPTON, Va. – The Stony Brook University swimming and diving team continued their hunt for their first ever Colonial Athletic Championship today, February 23, in Hampton, Va, after completing the second of four days in the meet. 

In the morning session, the Stony Brook divers led by junior Sara DiStefano and freshmen duo Mykayla Lavery and Jocelyn Lichwick took the board for the 3M Championships.  



DiStefano set the tone by finishing in 14th place, which was a team best and pushed herself into the Flight 1 B - Final. Lichwick finished with 197.15 points, which placed her in 18th overall, and as an Alternative for the finals. Lavery rounded out the top-20 by earning 177.30 total points. 

In the B - Final, DiStefano earned Stony Brook 6 team points following an 11th place performance in the 3M Championships with 231.20 points. 

Junior Mary Kate Conway earned a spot in the 500 Yard Freestyle Championship by collecting 16th overall in the preliminary round, touching the wall at 5:02.81. In the final heat, Conway collected 16th overall, with a final time of 5:15.50.



To end the night, the 400 medley relay composed of sophomore Brenna McLaughlin, graduate Jessica Salmon, freshman Michelle Vu, and Conway collected 22 team points for the squad. 



HIGHLIGHTS
  • Conway earned Stony Brook 1 team point after her finish in the 500 Yard Freestyle Championship.
  • The 400 medley relay squad touched the wall at 3:48.96, with splits of 28.19 and 57.15 to earn eighth place overall. 
  • Stony Brook is currently in eighth place with 75 total team points. 
  • This is the first ever CAA Championships in program history. 
NEXT UP
The Stony Brook women's swimming and diving team is back in action tomorrow, February 23, for day three of the CAA Championships. Championship races that are scheduled for tomorrow are 100 Butterfly, 400 Individual Medley, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, and 200 Freestyle Relay. The preliminary round will begin at 10:00 a.m, followed by the diving prelims at 12:30 p.m., and the finals beginning at 6:00 p.m.
