Vu Breaks Program Record, Swimming and Diving Wraps Up Day 3 At CAA Championships

HAMPTON, Va. – The Stony Brook swimming and diving team put forth a valiant team effort in their third day at the CAA Championships today, February 24.  



In the morning session, the squad had multiple student athletes put forth their best career times. Leading the way was freshman Michelle Vu by taking seventh place in the 100 Fly with her best time of the season at 55.12. Later in the session, junior Mary Kate Conway finished in 13th place for the 200 Yard Freestyle to move herself into the Championships. Her time of 1:51.86 was a new personal best. 



Also, sophomore Brenna McLaughlin and freshman Sara Baxter both earned career best times in the 400 IM and 100 Back to earn 19th place, respectively. McLaughlin touched the wall at 4:32.65, while Baxter finished at 57.52 for their new career best.



In the final session, Vu created history for the program as her time of 23.69 leading off the 200 Freestyle Relay broke the school record of 23.75 which lasted nearly 12 years. The Relay team composed of Vu, Conway, Baxter, and Alanna Depinto finished the race at 1:35.37 for eighth place. 



Before her historic heat, Vu made history for herself as she beat her personal-best time in the 100 Fly with a 54.87 finish that was good for seventh place. 



Conway also made history for herself after touching the wall at 1:50.84 for a personal-best and 12th place. 



NEXT UP
The Stony Brook women's swimming and diving team is back in action tomorrow, February 23, for the final day of the CAA Championships. Championship races that are scheduled for tomorrow are 1650 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, 1M Diving, and the 400 Freestyle Relay. The preliminary round will begin at 10:00 a.m, followed by the diving prelims at 12:30 p.m., and the finals beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Seawolves are currently in eighth place with 114 total points.
