BOSTON, Mass. – The Stony Brook women's basketball team (13-9, 7-4 CAA) battled tough, but fell on the road Thursday night against the Northeastern Huskies (11-11, 6-5 CAA), 68-63, inside the Cabot Center.
Graduate guard
Anastasia Warren cemented her name in the Stony Brook record book as she broke the career made three-pointers record which was previously held by Shania Johnson with 191 made triples. Warren, who came into the game tied with Johnson, knocked down three three-pointers and is now the program leader with 194 made threes and counting.
The Seawolves jumped out to an early advantage, as they led for the entire first half of play, including an eight-point lead after a 10-2 run with 5:30 left in the second quarter. Stony Brook was paced by senior guard
Gigi Gonzalez and sophomore forward
Sherese Pittman early in the game with the tandem scoring 21 of 31 points in the half. Pittman was dominant in the first quarter, scoring eight of the team's 16 points in the frame.
Gonzalez, the Seawolves' floor general, found her stroke in the second quarter by dropping 13 of the 15 points for the squad, including a tough finish before the buzzer to give Stony Brook a 31-27 lead at the break.
Shortly after the break and a Northeastern run, Warren made a hard driving layup to give Stony Brook a 34-33 lead and captured her 1,300 career point in the process.
Just over three minutes later, the Georgia native made history as she set the all-time made three-pointers record at Stony Brook after knocking down her 192
nd career three-ball.
Trailing 44-42 heading to the final quarter, the backcourt duo of Warren and Gonzalez kept the Seawolves in hunt by scoring 10 and eight points each in the frame, respectively. But the Huskies shot a scorching 9-of-13 from the field in the final quarter to ultimately take home the victory, 68-63.
STATS AND NOTES
- Warren became the all-time career record holder for made three-pointers after making a deep-shot with 2:47 left in the third quarter. Warren passed Shania Johnson who tallied 191 made threes from 2017-19. For the game, the guard dropped 19 points, with a season-best eight rebounds, and tied a season-high with four assists.
- Gonzalez was aggressive from the field all evening as she attempted a career-high 25 field-goals and went 9-of-25 from the field with a team-best 23 points. Also, the Floridan had a career-best four three-pointers and dished out four assists.
- Pittman recorded her fifth double-double of the season and for the first time this year, did so in back-to-back games. The forward tallied 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Pittman is averaging a team-best 8.2 rebounds per game, which is also third in the CAA.
- Juniors Kelis Corley and Shamarla King tallied seven rebounds and two points each.
- The Seawolves dominated the Huskies on the offensive glass 18-10 and outscored Northeastern 19-9 on second chance points.
- Stony Brook is now 6-5 when three or more players score in double-figures.

"Northeastern was the better team tonight. We will regroup and focus on closing out the weekend with a win," said head coach Ashley Langford following Thursday night's game at Northeastern.

The Seawolves will return to the court on Sunday afternoon, February 12, to take on Hofstra inside Island Federal Arena for their annual Play 4 Kay Pink Game. It marks the second meeting between the two teams this season, as Stony Brook took the first game on New Year's Day, 67-55. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m., and the game will broadcast live on FloHoops and SNY.
