Five Seawolves Named to Prestigious NFF Hampshire Honor Society

IRVING, Texas – Five former Stony Brook football student-athletes were named to the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society as announced by the organization. Eric Black, Damien Caffrey, Reidgee Dimanche, Carthell Flowers-Lloyd, and Kyle Nunez all claimed the prestigious recognition for their academic success coupled with their contributions on the field.
 
The five Seawolves are part of an elite group of 1,734 players from 328 schools qualified for membership in 2023, setting a new record for the number of members in a single-year during the program's 17-year history. The initiative has now honored 16,370 student-athletes since its inception.
 
To be eligible for the NFF Hampshire Honor Society, student-athletes must be either a senior, who will graduate this spring/summer, and just completed his final year of playing eligibility in 2022 or a graduated player, who has been out of high school at least three years. All candidates must have attained a minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.2 (4.0 scale) and been starters or significant contributors throughout the 2022 season.
 
Black appeared in 10 games in his lone season on Long Island and recorded 19 tackles (11 solo, eight assists), seven TFLs, and five sacks. Black led the team in sacks and was second on the team in TFLs. The defensive lineman was tied for 10th in the CAA in sacks in 2022. Black finished the season with four sacks over the Seawolves' final three games, which included a two-sack outing against Morgan State on November 5.
 
Caffrey appeared in all 11 games in 2022 for the Seawolves. The tight end caught seven passes for 78 yards and was a key cog blocking for Stony Brook's ground game. Caffrey caught his first two passes as a Seawolf in the season opener against Rhode Island on September 1. The Long Island native hauled in his longest catch of the season which went for 35 yards against Maine on October 22.
 
Dimanche appeared in nine games in 2022 and recorded 74 tackles (44 solo, 30 assists), 4.5 TFLs, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one interception. He led the team in tackles and was tied for 15th in the CAA in total tackles. Dimanche registered 10 or more tackles in a game four times in 2022. He racked up a season-high 12 tackles in a game on two occasions. He made 12 tackles against William & Mary on October 1 and 12 tackles versus Maine in the Seawolves' homecoming win on October 22.
 
Flowers-Lloyd totaled 70 tackles (40 solo, 30 assists), 14 TFLs, two sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 2022. Both his interception and fumble recovery were returned for touchdowns. The Syracuse, N.Y. native ranked second on the team in total tackles, second in solo tackles, first in TFLs, tied for third in sacks, and was one of three players to record one interception this season. The graduate finished the regular season tied for third in the CAA in tackles for loss, tied for 19th in total tackles, and was 15th in the league in solo tackles.
 
Nunez started all 11 games and was a key cog on the offensive line for the Seawolves. He helped Stony Brook total over 100 yards on the ground in seven games in 2022 including five-straight games to end the season. The Seawolves rushed for a season-high 167 yards in their season opener against Rhode Island on September 1, with Nunez leading the charge. Nunez helped Ross Tallarico put together a career year as the running back tallied a team-best 602 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.
 
The NFF Hampshire Honor Society capitalizes on the NFF's National Scholar-Athlete program by greatly expanding the number of scholar-athletes the NFF can recognize each year. The program further strengthens the organization's leadership role in encouraging academic performance by the student-athletes at the 774 colleges and universities with football programs nationwide.
