TOWSON, Md. – The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team dominated both ends of the field to roll past Delaware, 18-6, and secure a spot in the CAA Championship game on Thursday afternoon at Tiger Field.

The Blue Hens struck first, taking an early 1-0 lead within the first two minutes of the game after Lizzie Hsu found the back of the net off an assist from Lizzie Yurchak. However, Stony Brook did not stay silent for long as Creo found the back of the net herself exactly two minutes later.
Delaware did not waste any time as it netted its second goal of the day less than 10 seconds after the Seawolves. With 5:19 remaining in the first quarter, Hsu struck again to give the Blue Hens a 3-1 lead. With 36 seconds left in the quarter, junior defender
Clare Levy took matters into her own hands and found the back of the cage for the second time in her career to cut the deficit to just one before heading into the quarter break.
Coming out of the break, it was the Blue Hens that would strike first yet again to take control of a 4-2 lead, their largest margin of the contest. With 10:05 left to play in the second quarter, Hart finished back-to-back goals to tie the contest at 4-4. On the ensuing possession, Delaware's Laurel McHale scored to take back the lead for the Blue Hens.
With 6:33 remaining in the first half, senior midfielder
Erin MacQuarrie stepped up to the eight meter and drilled one home to tie the game at 5-5. Masera and Mitchell would add a goal each before the end of the half to give the Seawolves a 7-5 lead heading into the halftime break.
Stony Brook came out hot in the second half, outscoring Delaware 11-1 to secure the 18-6 victory and ultimately a spot in the CAA title game.
STATS AND NOTES
- Masera recorded four goals and dished out a pair of assists to rake in six points. The CAA Midfielder of the Year also grabbed a career-high tying 12 draw controls and added two caused turnovers.
- Hart added another multi-goal game to her resume. The senior registered four goals and two assists for a total of six points.
- Verhulst recorded her second career hat trick while also picking up a ground ball and a draw control.
- Creo tallied a pair of goals and added an assist. She had now recorded at least one assist in her last six of seven outings.
- Mitchell also registered a pair of goals while dishing out a team-high three assists.
- MacQuarrie and Levy both tallied a goal in the contest while also picking up three ground balls. Sophomore Casey Colbert also recorded a goal.
- Haley Dillon and Ella Whitehouse led the Seawolves' defense with three caused turnovers each. Lindsay Rongo, Masera, and Levy all tallied a pair on the day.
- Stony Brook won the battle on the ground, 27-15 and the batt le in the circle, 16-10.
NEXT UP
The Seawolves will take on No. 2 Towson in the CAA Championship game on Saturday, May 6. First draw is set for 12:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on LacrosseTV.
