CLEVELAND, Ohio – Stony Brook football alumnus Gavin Heslop has signed with the Cleveland Browns, the organization announced Saturday morning.
Heslop, now in his fourth season in the NFL, initially signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent and has also made stops with the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers. He has appeared in three games in his NFL career.
At Stony Brook, Heslop played 45 games as a defensive back and started his final 37. He finished with 196 total tackles, 21.0 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 30 passes defended and returned two fumbles for touchdowns. He also blocked three kicks on the special teams unit.
The Yonkers, N.Y. native earned a pair of All-CAA selections in his collegiate career, taking Second Team honors in 2018 and Third Team in 2019.
Heslop joins a pair of Stony Brook teammates in Cleveland in Sam Kamara and Tyrone Wheatley, Jr.
The Browns host the Cincinnati Bengals to open the 2023 season on Sunday, Sept. 10.
