ATTLEBORO, Mass. - The Stony Brook women's cross country team, led by Grace Wiegele's fourth-place finish, collected 66 points as a team and finished third at the Friar Invitational on Friday afternoon.
Weigele paced the Seawolves for a second straight weekend after taking first individually last weekend at the Stony Brook Season Opener. She covered the 4K course in 14:20.3 to finish as Stony Brook's top performer. Fiona McLoughlin was close behind, completing the race in 14:31.3 to grab eighth place.
Three other Seawolves finished inside the top-20 and three more finished inside the top-30 of the four-team field. Nicole Garcia (15:31.9), Niahm Durcan (15:37.6) and Amelie Guzman (15:39.5) finished 18th, 19th and 20th, respectively. Ava Carsley (22nd) and Rebecca Clackett (23rd) finished back-to-back, while Julia Samuelson rounded out the field of Seawolves with a 29th-place finish.
QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"Encouraging team performance by the guys today in difficult weather conditions and against some good regional opponents. The top three guys up front did a nice job with Mike Hawkins and Eben Bragg producing strong back up for them. Early days in the season, but I feel we are in a good place. The ladies had a solid day at the office, Grace and Fiona did well up front but we struggled a little at the three through five spot, but nothing that can't be fixed as we progress through the season," head coach Andy Ronan noted post meet.
