Seawolves Return to the Pool in Dual Meet against Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Stony Brook swimming & diving marked its first meet of 2024, falling in a 142-120 dual-meet result against Monmouth in New Jersey on Saturday.
 
The Seawolves dropped to 2-2 this season. Saturday marked its only dual meet against a CAA foe for the 2023-24 campaign.
 
Among the 14 total events on Saturday, Stony Brook took seven victories. The Seawolves won both relay events along with two individual victories from sophomore Michelle Vu and freshman Sylvia Walker. Sophomore Sara Baxter rounded out the individual victories for the Seawolves.
 
All 14 events on Saturday were swimming competitions. With a pair of victories in relays, Stony Brook has won 7-of-8 events in relay competitions during dual meets this season.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Seawolves kicked things off with a victory in the 200 medley relay, with Baxter, Alanna DePinto, Michelle Vu and Walker totaling a time of 1:49.63.
  • Walker was victorious again the 200-yard freestyle, finishing at 1:57.02. Mary Kate Conway came closely behind in second at 1:57.78.
  • Baxter won the 100-yard backstroke with a 1:01.24 time.
  • Vu's first individual victory of the day was in the 50 free in 24.85.
  • Walker made it two individual victories with a 54.04 time in the 100 free.
  • Vu's second individual victory was in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.12.
  • The Seawolves completed the meet with a victory in the 400 free relay, as Conway, Depinto, Vu and Walker finished in 3:38.06.

"The team swam well today. It was a great back-and-forth meet and it felt good to race again. The team had great camaraderie on the deck today which was even better to see. On to Rider next week!" said head coach Mark Anderson.
 
UP NEXT
 
Stony Brook will remain on the road and face Rider on Saturday, Jan. 20, with first competition to begin at noon.
