NEWARK, Del. - The Stony Brook volleyball team could not overcome an opposing Fightin' Blue Hens offense that dominated on their home court on Sunday afternoon, the Seawolves fell in three sets. The loss dropped Stony Brook's record to .500 in conference play with only two weeks left in the regular season.
The Seawolves were led by a double-double from
Leoni Kunz, who registered 14 kills and 11 digs on the day.
Kali Moore also added 13 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end,
Julia Patsos chipped in for with 14 digs to go with a pair of blocks from
Ayanna Pierre Louis.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The Seawolves found themselves in an early deficit, losing the first set, 25-21. Delaware took control and never gave up the lead as Stony Brook trailed by as many as six points. Stony Brook hit .214 through the opening frame with 15 kills to show for the offense as Kunz led with six kills.
SET 2 | Stony Brook lost set two, 25-20, hitting a match-low .143 behind 11 kills. Moore tallied four kills to lead the squad, but Delaware grabbed an early advantage and rode that to victory hitting a match-high .375 with 19 kills.
SET 3 | Delaware finished off the sweep with a set-three victory. The Seawolves fell in a back-and-forth battle, losing 25-21 in a set that featured seven lead changes and 10 ties. Stony Brook hit a team-high .243 with 15 kills while the Blue Hens notched 13 kills on .258 hitting.
STATS AND NOTES
- Leoni Kunz registered her 29th career double-double with a team-high 14 kills and 11 digs. She added two assists, one block, and one ace in the loss.
- Stony Brook got a match-high 14 digs from Julia Patsos.
- Stony Brook attackers were helped by a team-high 35 assists from Torri Henry.
- Madison Cigna had a team-high two aces in the loss.

"Delaware is a really good team, and we allowed them to be in system too often today. That allowed them to have multiple weapons, making them hard to defend. I thought we did a better job in serve receive today which kept us in striking distance. We just weren't able to close the gap. As we come to the end of the regular season, next weekend is huge and we're excited to be back in Pritchard," noted head coach Kristin Belzung.

The Seawolves return to the court next weekend when they host Towson on Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. in Pritchard Gymnasium with coverage available on FloVolleyball. Stony Brook will look to earn their first win against the Tigers in a series dating back to 2001.
