Paulsen Notches 4 RBI; Smink Tosses Gem in Stony Brook's Victory at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Brett Paulsen collected four RBI and Eddie Smink tossed six scoreless innings to help propel the Seawolves past the Campbell Fighting Camels 7-3 on Friday in North Carolina.

The right-hander (4-4) started on the mound and picked up the win for Stony Brook (16-16, 5-5). Smink went six shutout innings while giving up three hits, allowing six walks and striking out four.

Paulsen went 2-for-4 with a walk in addition to his four RBI for the Seawolves. Sophomore Johnny Pilla furnished a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-5 with a home run and an RBI. Freshman Chris Carson also contributed for Stony Brook, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a home run and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After Smink stranding the bases loaded in the first and leaving a runner on base in the second inning, the Seawolves would put runs on the scoreboard in the third. Carson got the rally going by getting hit by a pitch, followed by a single from Evan Fox. Matt Miceli came up with the RBI-single, bringing in Carson. Then, the Seawolves would attack after a two-run single off the bat of Paulsen.

Smink then held the Fighting Camels scoreless before the squad got back on the board in the very next inning. Stony Brook picked up a run on Carson's two-out solo home run off of Cole Peschl, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Seawolves.

Stony Brook would score again in the sixth with the long-ball. The Seawolves recorded a run on Pilla's one-out solo home run off Peschl.

Following the final inning from Smink in the sixth, the Seawolves picked up two runs when a single from Paulsen brought home senior Matt Brown-Eiring and freshman Erik Paulsen, bringing the Stony Brook advantage to 7-0 in the seventh. Campbell put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but E. Paulsen would finish the off the game out of the pen in the Seawolves the 7-3 win.
