BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Four Stony Brook players collected two hits, but the Seawolves fell to the Campbell Fighting Camels 9-2 on Saturday that sets up a rubber game matchup for tomorrow afternoon.
Nicholas Rizzo (3-4) started and took the loss on the mound for Stony Brook (16-17, 5-6). He went 2.2 innings, allowing two runs and struck out two batters. Also, Colin Rhein, Ty Panariello and Quinlan Montgomery would finish off the final 5.1 innings by allowing seven runs and striking out three batters.
Offensively, Stony Brook was led by Matt Miceli, Matt Brown-Eiring and Ryan Micheli who all tallied two hits. Also, Johnny Pilla went 2-for-3 with two doubles and scored both runs for the Seawolves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Following Rizzo leaving a base-runner stranded in the first inning, Stony Brook got on the scoreboard starting in the next inning. The squad got an RBI single from Micheli, scoring Pilla from second base. Pilla got the rally going with a two-out double to left field.
The Seawolves lost the lead they built in the second after Campbell tallied seven runs over the next six innings, but got back on the board in the eighth trailing 7-1. Pilla came across to score the lone run of the inning for Stony Brook, which brought the score to 7-2 in favor of the Fighting Camels. The Seawolves were unable to get any closer, as Campbell added two runs to their tally on the way to a 9-2 final.
