BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Stony Brook got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Seawolves put 11 runs on the board and knock off the Campbell Fighting Camels 11-2 on Sunday to secure the series victory.
JT Raab (3-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Stony Brook (17-17, 6-6). The right-hander went 5.1 innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on two hits, allowing three walks and striking out three. Senior Ty Saunders also made an impact on the mound for the Seawolves, throwing 3.2 shutout innings while allowing one hit, with one walk and three strikeouts for his first career save.
Offensively, the Seawolves were led by their 1-through-4 hitters as Evan Fox, Matt Miceli, Matt Brown-Eiring, and Erik Paulsen all tallied multiple RBI. Also, Robert Taylor tallied three hits, two RBI and scored two runs in the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Following Raab leaving a Fighting Camel on base in the first frame, the Seawolves would get on the scoreboard in the next inning. E. Paulsen put Stony Brook on the board with a leadoff home run off freshman Nate Brittain to left field, his fourth of the season. Raab was dominating the Campbell hitters over the next three innings by not allowing a run and did not allow a runner on base over the frames.
The Seawolves built on their lead in the fifth inning, which brought the advantage to 4-0. This time, the squad got three RBI-knocks from Fox, Miceli and E. Paulsen to grow their lead.
Campbell narrowed Stony Brook's lead to 4-2 in the bottom fifth before the Seawolves stretched the advantage to 8-2 in the eighth inning. Both teams were scoreless in the sixth and seventh inning, but the Seawolves bats heated up in the eighth. They scored four runs, including a two-run home run off the bat of Brown-Eiring. Taylor had an RBI double and Miceli tallied an RBI single in the inning as well.
Saunders held the Fighting Camels scoreless before the SBU offense got back in action the next inning, bringing the Stony Brook advantage to 11-2. The squad score two runs on sacrifice-flies from Fox and Taylor. The score remained 11-2 for the rest of the game, as the Seawolves coasted to the win with Saunders closing the door for his first save of the season.
