STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The No. 13 Stony Brook women's lacrosse team rolled past Hofstra, 18-5, in the Battle of Long Island to pick up its ninth consecutive victory. With the win, the Seawolves clinched their second consecutive CAA Regular Season Championship title and the No. 1 seed in the 2024 CAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament.
By securing the CAA Regular Season Championship, Stony Brook clinched its 11
th straight conference regular season title (two CAA Regular Season Championships & nine America East Regular Season Championships). With earning the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, the Seawolves will play in the semifinals on Thursday, May 2, at 12 p.m., against the No. 4 seed.
Stony Brook was paced by six goal scorers, four of which recorded multi-goal games. Senior midfielder
Ellie Masera (five goals, two assists) and graduate attack
Alex Finn (four goals, three assists) each tallied seven points apiece. Graduate attack
Kailyn Hart scored a game-high tying five goals as the trio of Hart, Masera, and Finn accounted for 14 of the Seawolves' 18 goals in the game.
The Seawolves took control of the game early and never looked back. Stony Brook scored the game's first four goals and closed the first quarter with a commanding, 6-1, advantage. Junior attack
Courtney Maclay scored both of her goals in the first quarter, while Finn tallied two of her four goals in the first 15 minutes of play.
Stony Brook tacked on to its early lead in the second quarter by outscoring Hofstra, 3-1, and took a 10-2 lead into the halftime break. Finn finished the first half with a hat trick as she led the Seawolves to an eight-goal lead.
The Pride netted the first goal in the second half just 1:10 into the third quarter. Following Hofstra's score, it was all Seawolves the rest of the way as they went on a 5-0 run to take a 15-3 lead and outscored the Pride 8-3 in the second half on their way to the 18-5 win.
The Seawolves held Hofstra to just 12 shots in the game, with only seven of them going on goal. Junior defender
Avery Hines anchored the defense once again as she caused five turnovers and picked up a pair of ground balls. Graduate midfielder
Erin MacQuarrie had a strong day in the midfield with a career-high tying four grounds balls and a career-high two caused turnovers.

Emily Manning made two saves and picked up the win in net to move to 9-2 this season.
STATS AND NOTES
- Masera's seven points tied a game-high and marked the fifth time this season that she registered seven or more points in a game (has done so in back-to-back contests). It was the sixth time this season that she scored five or more goals in a game and has done so in two consecutive outings. The senior added a game-high nine draw controls.
- Finn's seven points were her most in a game since tallying eight against Campbell on March 24. Her four goals tied a season-high and it was the seventh time this season that she dished out three or more assists in a game.
- Hart rattled the cage five times, her seventh five-goal game of the season.
- Hines' lockdown defensive play continued as she caused five turnovers and picked up two ground balls.
- McQuarrie picked up a career-high tying four ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.
- Verhulst tallied four points with a goal and three assists. The graduate added four ground balls and three draw controls in the win.
- Maclay scored a pair of goals and picked up two ground balls. It was her fifth multi-goal game of the season.
- Graduate attack Morgan Mitchell racked up a season-high tying three points with a goal and an assist.
- Stony Brook moves to 17-0 in conference and conference tournament games as a member of the CAA.
- The Seawolves won their 61st straight conference game, a streak that began in 2015.

Stony Brook is back in action at LaValle Stadium on Thursday, April 25, when it hosts Stanford at 3 p.m. The Seawolves are 3-1 all-time against Stanford and earned a 14-11 victory over them last season in San Diego, Calif. Masera led all scorers in the win as she racked up seven points (five goals, two assists) and recorded nine draw controls.
