STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Junior Colin Rhein (3-3) started and went seven innings, giving up three runs, two earned, but the Pride ultimately settled the Seawolves hitters to take the 3-2 victory at Joe Nathan Field this afternoon. Stony Brook got the game-tying run to second base in the final inning but were unable to get the tying run across.
Over the seven innings, the right-hander surrendered seven hits, allowed one walk and struck out four. Senior
Brendan Pattermann was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings while allowing three hits, walking none and striking out one to complete the final two innings of play.
Offensively, the Seawolves were led by junior Matt Miceli, who went 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI. Senior Evan Fox put together a standout effort as well, going 1-for-4 with a double in the defeat.
HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Pride got on the scoreboard first in the fourth inning by a home run and RBI single, taking a 2-0 lead.
- Rhein went back to work in the fifth by tossing a 1-2-3 inning, followed by stranding a runner on-base in the sixth.
- After the 1-2-3 inning from Stony Brook bats in the bottom half of the sixth, the Pride scored an unearned run in the seventh that gave them a 3-0 advantage.
- Pattermann came into the game in the eighth inning. The right-hander stranded a runner on third base to end the frame. He also came back for the ninth and stranded two runners on-base.
- Matt Brown-Eiring started the rally in the bottom half ninth with a one-out single through the left side. Fox followed with a double down the left field line to give the Seawolves runners on second and third with no outs.
- Following the pitching change for Hofstra, Johnny Pilla flew out to deep center to bring home Brown-Eiring and cut the deficit to two. Matt Miceli came to bat after Pilla and drove home Fox on a hit up the middle, making the score 3-2.
