NEW YORK, N.Y. – Stony Brook women's lacrosse senior midfielder Ellie Masera was selected with the third pick in the 2024 Athletes Unlimited College Draft on Wednesday night. Masera becomes just the second player in program history to be drafted in the Athletes Unlimited College Draft joining Ally Kennedy who was picked second overall in 2021.

"I am so happy for Ellie; she is a relentless worker and has a true love for the sport. Athletes Unlimited is comprised of the best players in the game and Ellie will make a great league even better," said Stony Brook head coach Joe Spallina.

Masera is having a senior season for the ages. She was named the CAA Midfielder of the Year for the second season in a row and was selected as the CAA Tournament Most Outstanding performer following the Seawolves' 9-6 championship victory over Drexel.

The All-CAA First Teamer has recorded 104 points (69 goals, 35 assists) and 136 draw controls in 17 games this season. The Tewaaraton award nominee ranks ninth in the nation in draw controls per game (8.0), ninth in goals (69), sixth in goals per game (4.1), first in points (104), second in points per game (6.1), first in shots per game (10.3), and first in shots on goal per game (7.4). She leads the CAA in goals, goals per game, points, points per game, shots, and shots per game.

Earlier this season, she netted her 200th career goal in a win over Rutgers on April 9, and became just the sixth player in program history to reach 200 career goals. Masera was also named the USA Lacrosse DI Player of the Week (Feb. 27) and IWLCA DI National Offensive Player of the Week (Feb. 27) and took home four CAA Player of the Week honors (Feb. 26, March 4, April 15, April 22).

In the CAA Tournament semifinal win over Elon, Masera eclipsed 300 points in her career and 100 points this season. She is just the fifth player in program history to record over 300 points in their career and the sixth player to register 100 points or more in a single-season.

With her 136 draw controls this season, she set the Seawolves' single-season record for most draw controls. The senior moved past Kerri McCarthy, who previously held the record with 135 draw controls in 2018.

Masera, along with 15 other collegiate stars were invited to make their professional debut in the league's fourth season at the USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Maryland this summer from July 18 to August 11. Season tickets are on sale now.
