RICHMOND, Va. – Stony Brook baseball senior pitcher Brendan Pattermann has been named a 2023-24 CAA Leadership and Sports Excellence Award winner for baseball. Pattermann becomes the first player in program history to take home the award.

This season, Patterman tossed 20.0 innings with a 4.05 earned run average over his 10 appearances. On April 7th, he earned his first save of the season against Elon and collected a victory in his next appearance versus Manhattan on April 23rd. Later in the year, he earned his second save after finishing the final three innings against Hofstra on May 5. He had six scoreless appearances this season and went at least two innings in seven different outings during the year. For his career, he's made 44 appearances for the Seawolves over four seasons, earning six victories, six saves and 51 strikeouts over 75 innings.

In the classroom, Patterman is a CAA Commissioner's Honor Roll and All-Academic America East recipient. He finished his spring semester with a 3.77 grade point average and a 3.81 GPA for his career. He's won numerous awards over the course of his collegiate career for his production in the classroom, including being recognized on the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll twice, the CAA Commissioner's Honor Roll once, and CAA Commissioner's Honor Roll High Honors twice. Patterman was named to the Dean's List in Fall 2020, Spring 2021, Fall 2021, Spring 2022, Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 honors. The senior graduated with his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

During his time at Stony Brook, Pattermann also participated in numerous clubs and organizations, including Food Drive for Stony Brook Food Pantry, Sunshine Prevention Center, Soles for Souls, Stony Brook Society of Distinguished Scholar-Athletes, and the Stony Brook Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

The award mimics the Chuck Boone Leadership Award in football and the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award in men's and women's basketball. One student-athlete, who represents the highest standards of teamwork, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship in his or her academic and athletic achievements, was selected in each of the other 21 sports sponsored by the conference. The CAA's Faculty Athletic Representatives voted on the winners.
