STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook women's soccer alumna
Catharina von Drigalski '24 signed a professional contract with SPG Ladies FC Lustenau / FC Dornbirn last week. The team plays in the highest league in Austria, Admiral Frauen Bundesliga.
"Signing my first professional contract in Austria is the result of a lot of hard work and being able to adapt to change," von Drigalski said. "Stony Brook really prepared me for this by teaching me how to adapt to new challenges and situations. The experiences and support I received there have been crucial in getting me ready for this next step in my soccer career."
A five-year starter for the Seawolves, von Drigalski was an anchor on Stony Brook's backline, helping the squad capture back-to-back conference championships in 2019 and 2020. She earned All-CAA, All-America East, America East All-Rookie and America East All-Championship honors during her decorated career on Long Island. von Drigalski etched her name into the record book, tallying a single-game record four assists in a win over Hampton as a senior, while her 19 career assists are tied for fourth-most in program history.
"I can't wait to follow Catha's success at the professional level. During her five years with us she was an absolute pleasure to coach," Stony Brook women's soccer head coach Tobias Bischof said. "She was awesome on the field, but also had a great impact on the team off the field. Now she takes all of her experience to the professional game and I'm sure she will excel there as well."
Academically, von Drigalski graduated with a bachelor's degree in business and psychology. She won the CAA Institutional Scholar Athlete award, was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team, was a member of the America East Honor Roll in the fall of 2019 and was tabbed to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll in the fall of 2020 and 2021. She was recognized on the Stony Brook Dean's List every semester of her career.
