QUEENS, N.Y. – The Stony Brook men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw on the road at St. John's on Sunday evening. Jonas Bickus scored the equalizing goal, his first of the season, in the 13th minute as the score would hold and the Seawolves would be off to a 0-1-1 start on the young season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Red Storm opened scoring in the sixth minute when Miguel Diaz used an open sideline to make his way down the offensive zone and cross for a high shot into the top right corner of the net. Stony Brook responded to tie things up with a goal from Bickus. Lorenzo Selini collected the ball that bounced off a defender's leg, then dribbled at the top of the penalty arc before finding Bickus open at the top of the penalty box to fire a shot and even the score.
The two sides played a scoreless rest of the first half. Neither team could then capitalize through the final 45 minutes but had plenty of opportunities to score the go-ahead goal. Most notably, a shot from
Olsen Aluc that crossed into the box for
Trevor Harrison with a potential header in the final minute of regulation.
Stony Brook was limited to just nine total shots in the game, with only two on net over the course of the night.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"I'm proud of our team's performance tonight against St. John's," said head coach
Ryan Anatol post game. "They are a tough opponent with very dangerous attacking players, and I thought we were defensively solid and resolute throughout the game. We put ourselves in a strong position late in the match and created some good chances, but unfortunately we couldn't come up with the winner. Overall, I loved the response from our game on Thursday, and I'm pleased with the improvements we've made. I look forward to continuing to make steps forward."
