STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook women's lacrosse alumnus Ally Kennedy '21 was named to the official U.S. Women's Box Lacrosse National Team roster. She will compete with the team in the first-ever World Lacrosse Box Championships next month.
 
The event will commence on September 20, in Utica, N.Y. featuring 10 teams grouped into two pools competing for the inaugural championship title. Canada will take on Finland in the opener of the tournament, while the United States makes its debut against the Netherlands later in the day. The top three finishers in each of the two pools will advance to the playoffs, while the teams finishing fourth and fifth in each pool will face off in a play-in round for the remaining two spots.  
 
Kennedy will compete on the 23-player roster along with seven individuals who have previously medaled with the U.S. in major international competitions.
 
In Kennedy's five-year Stony Brook career (2017-2021), she totaled 329 points on 266 goals and 63 assists. She is second all-time in goals, fourth in points, and recorded the third-most draw controls (343) in program history. She was named both IWLCA and America East Midfielder of the Year in 2021 and claimed IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse All-American First Team honors. She was chosen second overall in the 2021 Athletes Unlimited College Draft. 
 
She helped Stony Brook to its first ever NCAA Championship quarterfinal appearances in 2017 and 2018 along with the program's first-ever No. 1 rankings among the IWLCA and the media in 2018. Professionally, Kennedy won gold for the U.S. National Team in the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's Championship, while also competing with Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse. 
 
Kennedy will take part in the first-ever World Lacrosse Box Championships next month at the Nexus Center and Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, N.Y. held September 20-29.
