ELON, N.C. – The Stony Brook men's soccer team came up short on the road against Elon on Saturday afternoon at Rudd Field. Sean Towey tallied his second goal of the season in the loss.
The Phoenix grabbed the lead when Scott Vatne scored in the sixth minute off a penalty kick. They later increased their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Charlie Kitch in the 17th minute, assisted by Vatne. The Seawolves had a pair of opportunities in the first half with a pair of shots on goal from Caleb Danquah and Ryota Kono. The score would hold into the intermission.
Stony Brook was hot coming into the second half firing off seven shots with a targeted shot from Kyle Smith and a crossbar ricochet from Moses Bakabulindi. The Seawolves narrowed the gap on a 71st minute goal from Towey, who has now scored both of his goals on the season in late game situations. Despite their chances, time ran out on the squad.
