OPENING KICK
  • This marks the second-ever matchup between these two programs.
  • In their last time out, the Seawolves never trailed en route to their third straight victory, taking down Campbell, 24-17, in the CAA opener on Saturday night in North Carolina.
  • This marks the best start for the Stony Brook football team since it started the 2018 season 4-1.
  • Roland Dempster was named CAA Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
  • The Seawolves received votes in the latest FCS Top 25 poll, as announced by the AFCA and Stats Perform organizations.
  • Graduate WR RJ Lamarre was one of eight CAA Football student-athletes selected as a semifinalist for the prestigious William V. Campbell Trophy, as announced by the National Football Foundation.
  • In their first-ever meeting, a 37-yard field goal as time expired lifted Stony Brook to a 24-22 victory over Morgan State on Nov. 5, 2022.
THREE WINS IN A ROW! 
  • Stony Brook earned its third win in a row and first CAA win since 2022 on Saturday in Buies Creek, defeating Campbell 24-17.
  • Roland Dempster led all Seawolves rushers with 179 yards and two touchdowns in the contest, averaging 5 yards per carry. Malachi Marshall finished with 157 yards through the air, completing passes to six different Seawolves' receivers. The rookie quarterback added 24 yards on the ground.
  • Cole Bunicci, paced all of Stony Brook's receivers in yardage, catching two passes for 35 yards. Dez Williams reeled in a team-leading four catches, totaling 27 yards. Jayden Cook and RJ Lamarre were efficient as well, finishing with more than 30 yards receiving.
  • The Seawolves won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing two turnovers while avoiding any giveaways. Stony Brook turned those takeaways into seven points. 
  • Jayson Allen and Nick Capazzola recovered fumbles and Kris Caine had 1.0 TFL and a sack in the win. Jordan Jackson secured a team-high five solo tackles, totaling six tackles. Shamoun Duncan-Niusulu and Anthony Ferrelli added five tackles while AJ Roberts and Chayce Chalmers racked up four apiece.
  • The Seawolves scored twice in the opening five minutes of action and never trailed in the victory.
  • Stony Brook converted 12-of-21 third downs while Campbell was successful on 4-of-10. The Seawolves also finished a perfect 1-for-1 on fourth down.
  • The Seawolves won the time of possession battle, 36:39 - 23:21.
  • Johnny Martin tallied his first touchdown of the season.
  • Stony Brook moved to 1-0 all-time against Campbell.
ROLAND EARNS CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK (AGAIN) 
  • For the second time this season, Roland Dempster was named CAA Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.
  • Dempster got the Seawolves scoring started early, rushing for two touchdowns in the first five minutes of the game from two and three yards out to give SBU a lead it wouldn't relinquish.
  • In his last three games, Dempster is averaging 130 yards and two touchdowns per game.
  • Dempster leads the CAA in numerous categories this season, including rushing attempts (84), rushing yards (427), rushing touchdowns (6), and average yards per game (106.8). He also ranks fourth in the FCS in rushing touchdowns, ninth in rushing yards, and 12th in rushing yards per game.
RECEIVING VOTES IN THE AFCA
  • The Stony Brook football team received votes in the latest FCS Top 25 poll, as announced by the AFCA and Stats Perform organizations this week.
  • It marks the second straight week that the Seawolves received national attention, collecting votes from the AFCA FCS Top 25 last week.
  • A season-high six CAA Football teams were ranked in the latest FCS Top 25 polls. In the AFCA Top 25 poll, Villanova led the way at No. 6, followed by William & Mary at No. 12, New Hampshire at No. 20, while UAlbany and Richmond tied for No. 23. In the Stats Perform Top 25 poll, Villanova came in at No. 6, then William & Mary at No. 11, followed by UAlbany at No. 21, Rhode Island at No. 22 with New Hampshire rounding out the top 25 at No. 24.
  • Stony Brook and Monmouth both received votes in the AFCA and Stats Perform Top 25 polls.
ABOUT THE BEARS 
  • Damon Wilson enters his 3rd season as the Bears head coach. He previously spent 13 seasons as the head coach at Bowie State University.
  • QB Tahj Smith leads the offense with 427 yards (37-of-65) and two touchdowns this season.
  • Jayson Collins Jr. and Myles Miree have combined for 343 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the year.
  • Arturo Mattocks and Elijah Williams are the leaders on defense. Mattocks has a team-best 23.0 tackles and Williams leads the squad with 5.0 sacks.
  • Carlvanisky Decius and Jadon Carter both have two interceptions in 2024 to pace the Bears.
  • Morgan State owns a 2-2 overall record this season. The Bears defeated Hampton in Week 1 and Virginia University of Lynchburg in Week 4, but fell to Towson and Ohio in their second and third weeks of the season.
