Men’s Track and Field Concludes Busy Week With Strong Performances At Mark Young Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Building off a strong showing in the days prior, Stony Brook men's track and field had another set of solid performances at the Mark Young Invitational on Saturday.

As a team, the Seawolves recorded 16 top-eight placements, including a win in the 4x100 relay by Walesky Nowak, David Onovo, Luke Clackett, and Ryan Scarry.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Nowak, Onovo, Clackett, and Scarry raced to a first-place finish in the 4x100 relay (43.53).
  • Nowak took second in the 400m; his strong run netted him a final time of 50.08, setting a new PR and season-best time in the process.
  • John Fontanez placed second in the 5000m (15:13.77).
  • Clackett finished second in the 400 hurdles (56.98).
  • Scarry finished third in the 400 hurdles. His time of 57.43 set a new PR in the event.
  • Collin McLaughlin took fourth in the 1500m, setting a new PR at a 3:58.73 clocking.
  • Mario Xerri placed fourth in the 800m (1:54.04).
  • Joseph Bertola placed fifth in the 1500m. Finishing in 3:59.08, setting a new PR.
  • Neel Chittur recorded a fifth-place finish in the 5000m (15:38.29).
  • Luca Maneri finished sixth in the 5000m (15:46.47).
  • Ryan Hesler took sixth in the 1500m, with a clocking of 3:59.11, setting a new PR in the event.
  • Michael Ye placed sixth in the 200m, setting a new PR and season-best time at 22.50.
  • Thomas Burfeind finished seventh in the 1500m (3:59.51).
  • Nick Tardugno finished seventh in the 5000m (15:52.15).
  • Ye placed seventh in the 100m (11.36).
  • Thomas Donohue placed eighth in the 800m (1:59.00).

"The meet today was an opportunity for some of our athletes to earn a place on the bus to the conference championships, and some took it," head coach Andy Ronan noted. "Mario in the 800m, McLaughlin in the 1500m, and John in the 5000m showed signs of potential in their events."

UP NEXT
Stony Brook continues its buildup to championship season next week, competing at the 129th annual Penn Relays. Action will begin on Thursday and conclude on Saturday, with three days of the meet starting at 10:00 a.m.
