PRINCETON, N.J. – Stony Brook women's lacrosse played a strong first half, but fell to No. 5 Princeton, 19-13, on Wednesday afternoon at Sherrerd Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Princeton got out to an early 3-0 lead only 4:26 into the game. Stony Brook responded with four of their own courtesy of
Riley McDonald,
Isabella Caporuscio, and
Angela Beardsley for the Seawolves first lead of the day. After some back and forth, the Tigers and Seawolves would be even at 6-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Hot scoring from both sides continued into the second quarter, as Princeton and Stony Brook traded goals, eventually finding themselves level again at 9-9 with 6:04 to play in the half. The Tigers would then register a 3-0 scoring run, holding the Seawolves without a goal for a 12-9 score heading into the break.
The Seawolves would be outscored, 4-1, in the third quarter with a tally from
Kylie Budke, as Stony Brook took a six-goal deficit into the final 15 minutes.
Stony Brook's comeback effort would fall short, closing the gap with three goals in the final nine minutes of play before Princeton's McKenzie Blake scored her eighth of the game with two seconds left in regulation to secure the Tigers' 10
th straight win.
STATS AND NOTES
- Isabella Caporuscio finished with a team-leading five points on four goals and one assist, finding the back of the net through traffic on multiple occasions.
- Charlotte Wilmoth registered four points on a pair of goals and assists, both woman-up scores.
- Riley McDonald tallied her 11th multi-goal game of the season with a pair of goals to help the Stony Brook offense.
- Alexandra Fusco recorded a career-high three caused turnovers, along with two goals, two ground balls, and two draw controls for an all-around performance.
- Braeden Siverson notched 100 career draw controls, after a team-high nine draw controls for the Seawolves. Princeton held a close advantage with 18 draws to Stony Brook's 17.
- The Seawolves converted five times on woman-up opportunities, while the Tigers were only able to score on one chance.
- Stony Brook only committed nine turnovers with Princeton causing six. The Tigers turned the ball over 13 times, with eight caused by a Seawolf.
- Stony Brook falls to 2-3 all-time against Princeton.
