Motton and Zamora Earn Weekly Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – The CAA announced its first batch of weekly awards for the 2025 season today with the Seawolves picking up two out of three honors. Mercedes Motton took home Co-Defensive Player of the Week while Ava Zamora was named Rookie of the Week.

Motton led the way on defense as the Seawolves went 3-0 in the Stony Brook Invite. She paced the team with 14 total blocks while also adding 15 kills and four digs to her final stat line. In the second match of the weekend she recorded six blocks in Stony Brook's win over Siena. In the weekend finale against Rhode Island she added another four blocks and seven kills. This is the first weekly honor of Motton's career.

As for Zamora, the freshman played a pivotal role Seawolves' undefeated weekend, leading the way with 115 assists and 9.58 assists per set. She also picked up 12 kills, six service aces, 31 digs and three blocks in her first three collegiate starts. Zamora nearly posted a triple-double in her second career start, totaling 50 assists, 17 digs and going 9-of-12 on kill attempts against Siena. Zamora was also named to the Stony Brook Invite All-Tourament Team.
