SMITHFIELD, R.I. - In the final non-conference match of the season, the Stony Brook volleyball team needed only three sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-15) to take down Bryant on the road.
The Seawolves wrap up non-conference play with a 4-5 record.
Kali Moore finished with 18 kills on the day to lead the Seawolves offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .432. Ava Zamora also had another solid match as she finished with 23 assists and seven aces, one short of tying the program's single-match record.
How It Happened
SET 1 | Pinpoint serving helped the Seawolves take set one 25-21 as Stony Brook recorded five aces. After trading leads throughout the early stages of the set, the Seawolves took their largest lead yet at 14-10 thanks to a 5-0 scoring run that saw two aces from Zamora. The Bulldogs did manage to retake the lead late at 21-20, only for Stony Brook to go on another 5-0 run to win the set.
SET 2 | Set two started off exactly like the first, with Bryant and Stony Brook trading 3-0 runs to open the set before yet another 5-0 Seawolves run put them in front halfway through at 13-11. Ayanna Pierre Louis recorded three blocks during this run, while Zamora picked up her fourth and fifth aces of the day. Both teams would end up tied 10 more times all the way up to a 22-22 score. Ultimately, though, the momentum shifted in Stony Brook's favor in the end as Quinn Anderson and Moore notched two more kills to close out the set.
SET 3 | The Seawolves finished things off with their most dominant set of the weekend as they pullefd away early and soon built a 14-8 lead. Moore added three more kills to her total in the first half of the set, while Zamora again scored back-to-back aces to bring her total to seven. Stony Brook did not let up as the team soon doubled up the Bulldogs' score at 24-12 after a 7-0 run. With match point in reach, Moore delivered one last kill to secure the sweep.
