STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Stony Brook volleyball team came back from an opening set loss and secured a 3-1 win (21-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-17) over the Northeastern on Friday at Pritchard Gymnasium in the CAA opener.
The victory boosted the Seawolves' record to 5-5 overall and 1-0 in the CAA.
Kali Moore turned in another phenomenal performance as she led the team with 22 kills and 14 digs. Quinn Anderson also added 14 kills to help the attack.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Seawolves fell behind early, dropping the first set 25-21. The Huskies got off to a blistering start, riding their early momentum to a 17-10 lead. Though Stony Brook was able to cut the deficit to three thanks to kills from Ayanna Pierre Louis, Liv Hertzog, and Anderson, Northeastern was just able to hold on long enough to take the set.
SET 2 | Stony Brook responded with a dominant 25-14 victory in set two. Aided by seven Northeastern serving and attack errors, the Seawolves never trailed in the set as 5-0 run featuring two kills from Moore and three Husky errors quickly made it 13-5. Sharp serving from Ava Zamora helped close the set out as she knocked back-to-back aces to get it to set point, paving the way for the set winner from Lei Lasike. Overall, Stony Brook hit .478 over the course of the set.
SET 3 | Stony Brook took a 2-1 match lead after taking down the Huskies in set three. The Seawolves started thing off with a 4-0 run that saw another ace from Zamora and two kills from Pierre Louis. Northeastern, though, came back to take the lead in the middle of the set and held an 18-13 advantage late. Another 4-0 Stony Brook run cut the deficit to one, before the third 4-0 run of the set put the Seawolves back in front 23-21. After the Huskies tied it back up 23-23, clutch kills from Hertzog and Moore put the set away for good.
SET 4 | Stony Brook rode its late momentum in the third set all the way to victory in the fourth, routing Northeastern 25-17. Holding a two-point lead at 11-9, the Seawolves went on their longest scoring run of the night with six unaswered, featuring two more kills from Anderson. Now up 17-9, Stony Brook ahd little trouble holding off the Huskies several more attack errors soon got it to match point at 24-17, at which point Hertzog delivered the decisive final kill.
